This Rinaldo concert version at the Barbican by the The English Concert was sold out a long time ago. As it is a collection of Handel previous hits it makes sense to be so enjoyable in a non-staged version.

The cast worked pretty well. Iestyn Davies voice is beautiful and he masters Rinaldo role. He had some minor problems with some coloratura but still delivered a intense performance.

The ladies, Jane Archibald as Armida and Joelle Harvey as Almirena were superb. Perfect style, perfect vocal line.

Luca Pisaroni presence is a luxury. Beautiful voice, perfect performance.

I was excited about seeing for the first time the young and hot Jakub Józef Orliński. And I’m happy to say that he exceeded any initial expectations. His voice sounds brilliant and rich, full of warmness and perfect technique and variations in the da capo sections.

The English Concert, conducted by Harry Bicket were good. Brilliant on the individual parts (Tabea Debus!) and good accompanying the singers but far from the tone and dynamic richness other trending baroque groups are doing nowadays. Only the during the Cara sposa we had a really expressing and varied playing from the strings.

There was some acting on stage, but it felt a bit unbalanced as some singers were doing it without score (Luca Pisaroni, the one commanding the acting and pulling the rest of the cast) and more implied (Jakub).
