There were many special things in this concert. The programme included the two main work for clarinet quintet: those by Mozart and Brahms. It was not the usual established string quartet joined by an external clarinetist but all were “external” and friends joining for this concert.

There were also two additional short pieces added the to announced programme. But they were not given as encores but as prefaces to the two main works.

Another special thing was how the two main players, Isabelle Faust (1st violin) and Lorenzo Coppola (clarinet) addressed the audience with very interesting explanation about the works and the clarinets the last was playing. Because that was also special: Coppola used copies of the special clarinets used for the premieres of these works.

And how were the performances? Outstanding. The balance was always perfect, with superb phrasing, flexible articulation and tempi, expanding the ending and silences in a very convincing way.
